New Year 2026 in Crete was more than a celebration it was a gathering of people from across Europe. Deafblind friends came together sharing festive days experiences and simple everyday moments. We became a community.

On New Year’s Eve we all met at a charming taverna to celebrate. We exchanged wishes laughed and welcomed the new year together.

We honored local tradition too cutting the vasilopita the New Year’s cake and our friends experienced this Greek custom firsthand.

We explored Knossos and its museum walking through the history and culture of the island together.

A highlight of the gathering was the DEAFBLIND award given to a participant from Spain as a symbol of continuity and shared responsibility for the future.

DEAFBLIND’s journey continues with the next gathering planned for the holiday season next year at a location to be chosen collectively.

Our time in Crete showed what happens when people facing similar challenges meet they draw strength from one another become stronger and create something lasting.

Connection collaboration and creativity this is what continues beyond the celebration.
